چکیده

Guanidino acetic acid (GAA) is naturally occurring in animal tissues playing a major role in the energy metabolism as a precursor of creatine. The objective of the study was to examine potential effects of GAA (CreAMINOTM) supplementation in purely vegetable diets compared to a positive control. Therefore a total of 780 male ROSS 308 broiler chickens were assigned to one of the following three diets: positive control (6% meat and bone meal), negative control (vegetable diet) and a vegetable diet supplemented with 0.6 g CreAMINOTM/ kg feed. Performance parameters were recorded from day 14 to day 35 and at the end of the experiment 5 chickens per pen (26 pens) were utilized for carcass quality determination in terms of carcass percentage, breast yield, leg yield, wing yield and abdominal fat yield. Additionally, meat quality in breast meat samples including pH, color, drip loss was measured. Overall weight gain of the broilers did not differ between positive control and the CreAMINOTM supplemented diet while broilers fed the purely vegetable diet showed significantly lower weight gain (p<0.05). Feed conversion was significantly lower in the treatment with CreAMINOTM supplementation compared to both positive and negative control (p<0.05), while mortality remained unaffected by treatment. Only numeric differences between treatments for carcass quality could be determined. Furthermore pH, drip loss, tenderness evaluation and lightness (L*), yellowness (b*) did not show any effect, only redness (a*) was found to be lower in the CreAMINOTM treatment. It can be concluded that supplementation of CreAMINOTM in purely vegetable diets improves broiler performance to levels achieved with a diet containing meat and bone meal, while carcass and product quality are not affected by supplemental CreAMINOTM.

Spontaneous Cervical Artery Dissection: The Borgess Classification

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The pathogenesis of spontaneous cervical artery dissections (sCAD) and its best medical treatment are debated. This may be due to a lack of clear classification of sCAD. We propose the new Borgess classification of sCAD, based on the presence or absence of intimal tear as depicted on imaging studies and effect on blood flow. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a single-center...

A novel Acetivibrio cellulolyticus anchoring scaffoldin that bears divergent cohesins.

Sequencing of a cellulosome-integrating gene cluster in Acetivibrio cellulolyticus was completed. The cluster contains four tandem scaffoldin genes (scaA, scaB, scaC, and scaD) bounded upstream and downstream, respectively, by a presumed cellobiose phosphorylase and a nucleotide methylase. The sequences and properties of scaA, scaB, and scaC were reported previously, and those of scaD are repor...

Mutations in the COL5A1 coding sequence are not common in patients with spontaneous cervical artery dissections.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The dermal connective tissue of most patients with spontaneous cervical artery dissections (sCAD) contains abnormal collagen fibers. This suggests a predisposing connective tissue defect. The ultrastructural abnormalities in the skin of patients with sCAD have similarity with the morphological alterations in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type II, a dominant heredit...

Effects of short‐chain acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase on cardiomyocyte apoptosis

Short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (SCAD), a key enzyme of fatty acid β-oxidation, plays an important role in cardiac hypertrophy. However, its effect on the cardiomyocyte apoptosis remains unknown. We aimed to determine the role of SCAD in tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tBHP)-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The mRNA and protein expression of SCAD were significantly down-regulated in the cardiomyoc...

Molecular cloning and nucleotide sequence of complementary DNAs encoding human short chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase and the study of the molecular basis of human short chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase deficiency.

Complementary DNAs encoding the precursor of human placental short chain acyl-coenzyme A (CoA) dehydrogenase (SCAD) (EC 1.3.99.2) were cloned and sequenced. The cDNA inserts in these clones were 1,852 bases in length combined, and encoded the entire 412-amino acid precursor SCAD (mol wt 44,303). This sequence included the 24-amino acid leader peptide moiety (mol wt 2,576) and 388 amino acids co...

Short chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (SCAD) deficiency. Immunochemical demonstration of molecular heterogeneity due to variant SCAD with differing stability.

Using a [35S]methionine labeling/immunoprecipitation technique, we have previously shown that cultured skin fibroblast from three patients with short chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (SCAD) deficiency each synthesize a normal-sized (41 kD) variant SCAD in an amount comparable to that of normal cells. In the current study, these same cell lines were reexamined with immunoblot analysis. In one cell l...
